Olive

Manzanilla Olives, also known has Mediterranean Olive, is a dense, oily, beautiful golden brown lumber with brown / black streaks running through it.  These trees are usually only harvested when they are too old to produce olives or are damaged by disease or nature.  Our stock is harvested, milled and processed lumber from our Central Valley home orchards.

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a cream or golden brown, with darker brown or black streaks. Color tends to deepen with age. Olive is sometimes figured with curly or wavy grain, burl, or wild grain.

Grain/Texture: Grain may be straight, interlocked, or wild. Fine uniform texture with moderate natural luster.

End Grain: small to medium pores in no specific arrangement, moderately numerous to very numerous.

Rot Resistance: Conflicting reports range from non-durable/perishable to durable/moderately durable. Olive is susceptible to insect attack.

Workability: Somewhat easy to work, though wild or interlocked grain may result in tear out during surfacing operations. Turns superbly. Glues and finishes well.
